Eligibility Criteria for a Credit Card in India

A credit card is a method of cashless payment that allows you to make payment to the merchant for goods and services and in return requiring you to pay the card issuer at a stipulated future date. The card issuer takes a certain extra charge for their services which is added to the amount spent by you, all of which must be paid later.

Credit cards are a must for you if you want to get lucrative discounts, deals, and benefits from shopping, traveling, etc. across India.

The eligibility criteria for credit cards in India varies across different lenders and the purpose for which the card is being issued.

Eligibility Criteria for a Credit Card in India

The basic criteria for applicants are as follows:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A regular source of income which can either be in form of salary or self-employment to pay back credit card bills
  • A savings account
  • Good credit history

These are the points of comparison across different institutions providing Credit card services in India:

1. HDFC Credit Card Eligibility

HDFC offers various cards which differ in terms of benefits and services. It offers Cashback card and premium card along with different cards for teachers, doctors and a separate card for women. The criteria for eligibility of HDFC card are:

  • Applicant should be between the ages of 21 and 65 years
  • The minimum income of salaried individual should be above 2 lakhs a year
  • For a self-employed individual, the minimum income per year should be more than 1.5 lakhs

2. IDBI Credit Card Eligibility

The two cards offered by IDBI are Royal Signature and Aspire Platinum Credit card. IDBI credit card provides attractive reward points along with air travel accident insurance cover, zero lost card liability and more. The eligibility criteria are stated below:

  • Should be a resident of India
  • Primary cardholder should be older than 21 years and younger than 60 years (65 years if self-employed)
  • Add-on cardholder should be 18 years or older

3. SBI Credit Card Eligibility

SBI offers a wide array of credit card services according to varied usage purposes. The basic requirements for eligibility are:

  • Should be a resident of India
  • Should be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a good CIBIL score to qualify

4. Axis bank Credit Card Eligibility

Premium card, Co-Branded card, and MY card are some of the Credit card services provided by Axis bank. To qualify, the applicant should be:

  • Citizen of India, Resident or Non-Resident
  • In the ages of 18 years to 70 years

5. ICICI Credit Card Eligibility

The wide array of Credit card services offered by ICICI are a contactless payment card, gemstone collection card, fuel card, airline card etc. The applicant should fulfill requirements mentioned below for eligibility:

  • Should be an Indian Resident
  • Should be at least 23 years old (18 years or older for add-on user)
  • Should have a minimum salary of Rs.20000 a month or annual income of more than 3 lakhs if self-employed.
